Pissnet is a meme.

Origins

On or around May 19th, 2021, Libera.chat was created after a hostile takeover of the IRC network Freenode by user rasengan, better known to the world as Andrew Lee. Afterwards, one-way mirror channels to #freenode and #freenode-policy-feedback were created. With these, former Freenodeans could see the disarray the network was falling into, and eventually, a troll of unknown affiliation named pissnet allegedly began advertising "cold wet chats" and "cold hard piss" in #freenode-policy-feedback (Freenode).

`rasengan`'s court case(s)

On the evening of May 27th, 2021, an IRC user found documentation regarding a court case with rasengan, Andrew Lee, new owner of Freenode, as the defendant. From what the file reads, several former staffers at London Trust Media in Los Angeles, CA sued Lee for 6 charges including multiple counts of fraud and a count of negligent misrepresentation, among other things. Since Libera's higher-ups allegedly did not want discussion of Lee on their platform, a group of users began discussing moving to a new network.

The move

After around 30 minutes of on-and-off deliberation, user AC5230 (AC) founded #rasengan on the BSDUnix IRC network. Soon after, users rasengan (an imposter of Andrew Lee, known also as elmyr) and roadkill joined in. AC, humored at elmyr's mockery of Lee, gave them operator status. 3 users joined soonafter, with roadkill noting the court file made them "go from being annoyed with what [Lee] did to Freenode to... just being completely astounded that this guy even exists."

As more users joined, the topic quickly slid past from Lee to joking around, but eventually rounded back around to

BSDUnix

BSDUnix wasn't very big. Most everything on there was just bots. Aside from #rasengan and eventually #pissnet the amount of humans on there was believed to be <20. This number slightly grew as #pissnet grew larger. But eventually, no channel could sustain the pure power of piss...

Pissnet - A True, Established Network

By May 30th, 2021, Pissnet had grown out of its BSDUnix shell (ha!), and had become its own network, with its main channel equipped with a mirror chat ##pissnet on Libera. Users established several Pissnet servers to connect to Pissnet, including cold.wet.chats.pissnet.xyz and irc.freenode.ceo. Over the span of 2 weeks, Pissnet had exploded in growth, and as of June 11th 2021, is expected to become a Top 100 IRC Network on netsplit.de by July 2021. On netsplit.de, where it was registered in June, it now boasts an average of 253 users and 113 chat rooms. Even Libera staffer jess can be seen on the Libera mirror. It's a blessing from God and his throne of piss.
